If you are patient it is quite possible to do this all yourself without the need for proprietary potions that are generally not compatible with the material you have in your side covers. The 43f uses Co-polymer Polypropylene with a titanium dioxide filler(the white colour) As mentioned by Mezo and Danjet you can use cable ties as filler with a soldering iron to perform the melting. Cable ties however are sometimes made from Nylon and other exotics that are not always compatible. The solution is to get the exact polymer for your filler. In Australia all ice-cream containers are made from the same co-polymer Polypropylene(PP). In the UK nearly all ice-cream containers are PP.(Walls and Tescos) Go to your freezer or your neighbors bin and dig one out. You should be able to find a white one. If you are unsure you should see PP marked on the base or the the recycle symbol with the number "5" that means PP. This is a thermoplastic which means it can be melted and frozen and remelted many times without reducing the material properties including the impact strength. So cut up some strips of white ice-cream container as filler rod and then use a hot tool of your choice :DICKHEAD: to melt the fracture surface on the back of you side cover. Make sure the surface is melted but not burnt(black and sooty) You can keep going back and redoing it until you are happy. You can also reinforce the join by making it extra thick on the inside. (Don't attempt to use glues or fiberglass on PP). You can sand and polish the outside keeping in mind that is very soft compared to body filler etc.If you are going to paint the outside give the surface a "flame treatmernt" by running a gas torch very lightly over the surface. This creates microscopic bond sites so the paint will stick like shit :bullshit: to a blanket and will not peel and crack the first time you drop it!Good luck and it is a lot cheaper than buying new ones(if you can find them)Top
The 3aj uses the same Polypropylene. In my case blue not white so I managed to find a Ice-cream tub that was blue colour match! In fact all models to my knowledge all models use this polymer with the exception of the first Tenere which is made from a thermoset resin (like fiberglass) and is not suitable for this technique. In regards using a heat gun you will get enough heat but not concentrated enough. Use a standard 30w soldering iron or what is very good are the small gas soldering irons that have special tips for plastic welding. I bought mine in Aldi for around $20. I have also used a kitchen knife sitting on the gas stove in the kitchen. Best to do it while the boss is out getting her hair done and then blame the kids for the blackened knives and the house full of fumes!!
